The Pacific Logging Congress was founded in Seattle, Washington, in July 1909 with the mission to provide sound technical education about the forest industry. It has sought to educate politicians, educators, their students and the general public about the need for sound responsible forest management to supply the global needs for wood fibre.

At the first PLC meeting in 1909, the founder of the PLC, Mr. George Cornwall stated: “Logging is an engineering science…the average logger must be…of good executive ability and possess the power of initiative. He must work with difficult problems, whose solution determines his success or failure. Therefore, loggers should have frequent contact if they expect to keep pace with the changing times and benefit from associated effort and a frank exchange of views.”

Since 1909 the PLC has an unbroken tradition of holding annual conventions in different cities across the Pacific Northwest. The latest is the 2025 Conference in La Quinta, Palm Springs, California.
