| Forest Growers Research and its collaborators have been working hard over the last 12 months to support the forestry industry. The 2025 FGR Annual Science Report showcases a range of new products and technological developments, including advances in tree embryo selection, tracking trees from nursery to forest, automated log tagging and debarking, and the use of artificial intelligence in various areas. We also highlight the benefits of local and international collaborations and value of funding industry-led micro-innovations while FGR Innovation Manager Alison Slade emphasises the importance of funding and monitoring extension activities over many years to maximise the impact of research. |
Stephen Franks, CEO Forest Growers Levy Trust states the “FGR 2025 Annual Science Report demonstrates exactly why such investment [in research] matters. The research highlighted across our portfolio—from understanding microbiome and site factors through to harvesting and transport—provides the evidence base our industry desperately needs. When we advocate for forestry’s future, we do so armed with scientific rigour that spans the entire value chain”.
The collaboration of our research providers and the dedication of our programme portfolio managers (who guide this research work) are integral to leading innovation and success in the forestry sector and the successes achieved would not be possible without them.
